Put Me Together is the seventh track of Everything Everything’s fourth studio album.
It could deal with xenophobia, repeating the line “they’re nothing like you and me”, whilst bringing up things all people do, as a way of showing that we are all the same, and that it is extremely sad and wrong tha...

[Reversed snippets]
[Verse 1]
Why do you look so old?
Was it something that I said?
Funny to think of me
Just as you're leaving
[Chorus]
And there's somebody washing the car
And there's somebody watching the children
But they're nothing like you and me
They're nothing like you and me
They celebrate all of the same days
And you see them out doing the garden
But they're nothing like you and me
Nothing like you and me
[Verse 2]
Why does it always end
With a total goodbye?
Give me a replay
I can work harder
[Chorus]
And there's somebody washing the car
And there's somebody watching the children
But they're nothing like you and me
They're nothing like you and me
They celebrate all of the same days
And you see them out doing the garden
But they're nothing like you and me
Nothing like you and me
[Bridge]
And they turn and look out of the window
And they're staring right through me and I know
That they never lived there at all
They never were there at all
What do you mean you don't know me?
I've been sleeping
I've been sleeping
[Verse 3]
Is it the darkest night
Or is that dawn in your eyes?
Pull me apart and
Put me together
[Chorus]
And there's somebody washing the car
And there's somebody watching the children
But they're nothing like you and me
Nothing like you and me
They celebrate all of the same days
You see them out doing the garden
But they're nothing like you and me
Nothing like you and me
Nothing like you and me
[Outro]
Nothing like you and me
What do you mean you don't know me?
I've been sleeping
Oh I, I didn't mean it, I didn't mean it
I, I didn't mean it
I didn't mean it

In an extensive interview with The Line of Best Fit, writer Higgs comments:
It’s about distrust in society, distrust in your neighbours, based in the ‘70s in a 'peering over the garden hedge’ kind of way, but I try to ram home that idea that yes, people are exactly the same.
