“Pretend” is Mali-Koa’s second single and was released on December 7, 2018.
On her twitter, she explained that “Pretend” is about coping with the end of a relationship, wanting to make believe that things were different, and trying to erase certain moments.
[Verse 1]
Maybe they were right, I was out of my mind
Maybe we were never fine
Happier at night, 'cause I know that I can turn my back on you
And hope I wake up someone new
Sorry ain't enough, but it's all I can say
Know it doesn't count for much
Please, don't play the fool who has come instantly
And what else can I do? No, I'm not in love with you
[Pre-Chorus]
If we can't admit to this
If we can't find a way
[Chorus]
Can you just pretend that we've never met?
You just walk away from me
Pretend, pretend
And I'll make-believe it's easier for me
That I never did you wrong
Pretend
[Verse 2]
Runnin' out of time, I'm afraid that it's over
I wish I wasn't sure
I'd give you back your hours for the times that you told me
That you loved me more and more
But I can't say like before
[Pre-Chorus]
If we can't admit to this
If we can't find a way
[Chorus]
Can you just pretend that we've never met?
You just walk away from me
Pretend, pretend
And I'll make-believe, it's easier for me
That I never did you wrong
Pretend
[Bridge]
Oh, no one ever said that this was gonna be easy
No
[Chorus]
Can you just pretend that we've never met?
You just walk away from me
Pretend, pretend ('Cause it would be easier)
And I'll make-believe, oh, it's easier for me (Easier for me, no)
That I never did you wrong (Oh, pretend)
Pretend (Oh, pretend)
