The title has a double meaning. It spells out “patterns in the static”, but it also describes the feeling of being in the “pits”.
Angry ghosts keep me company
Eyes are closed but I’m awake
I can’t sleep deeply
Unless I’ve been drinking
Enough to drown out what they say
And what they say is more than I can take
Oh, what a warped way to learn from my mistakes
There are patterns in the static
Noises in my attic
Voices in my head keep me awake
I’m on the brink of madness
And I can’t help but laugh at this
Oh, what a way
Oh, what a way to learn from my mistakes
Nobody gets away with anything
All must bear the balance sheet
So I befriend the voices
They’ve taught me some songs I guess
But, oh how the truth stings when they speak
And what they say
Is more than I can take
Oh what a warped way to learn from my mistakes
Not awake but fighting sleep
I just hope
I can dream again
But there’s patterns in the static
Noises in my attic
Voices in my head keep me awake
I’m on the brink of madness
And I can’t help but laugh at this
Oh, what a way
Oh, what a way to learn from my mistakes
