Pipe Down was written by Lil Toe.
Pipe Down was produced by Joji.
The song came together after meeting joji for the second or third time. Thats when we decided we wanted to work together. Neither one of us were established yet. We linked up in a basement in Bushwick because all other studios were closed.
The song was inspired by a collective of all underground songs at the time with a South Floridian spin. All the gutter, rebellious, bass-driven, ignorant fundamentals of the genre were a recipe for the songs success.
This is one of the songs that really paved my way in finding the sound I wanted to achieve at the time. I never had a song with both of my voices back to back, and it worked out just as we wanted to.
We recorded the song in a basement. We sat down and He made the beat in 30 seconds and I fell in love with it immediately. After laying my vocals down, we agreed to distort the entire song very heavily.
