Pink
Was the dress that you gave me when I turned three

Was the colour you always saw in me
Pink
Was my hair, and my heart and my eyes
And pink
Was the colour I came to despise

We can be born in pinks and blues
And different shades of the same hue
But we’re all just people
What if we grow up to be purple, or red or green?
And stopped buying into this binary machine
That was made to pigeonhole us into categories
And profit off of the idea of masculinity being exclusive to men
And of women being lesser than men
And I’m sorry, but we’re too fucking clever for that

Gender is a spectrum
There’s no start or end and
We won’t bend to fit
These two hugely exclusive ideas of what gender was meant to be
That was built off inaccurate biology and reinforced by gender roles
That try to limit our human experience through shame and social rejection
And this?
This is a reflection of insecurity at its most basic form
So let go of that pink and blue
And learn that it’s ok to be you

But turned out the only colours that I know
I will glow like my heart is a rainbow

I’m too beautiful for pink or blue
