[Interlude: Perry Maysun]
As we're thinking a lot and scrolling on TikTok and Instagram and Twitter and I'm just-
I'm starting to notice this pattern that I feel like, with modern day art, there's this narrative that you have to go viral
It has to be a hit, it has to be a banger
You gotta make content
Uh, it has to be this, it has to be that
And I feel like people aren't creating from their hearts anymore, you know?
And I, I uh-
Went to a meeting with a um-
With a label executive called us back and he asked me..
Uh, I didn't sign or nothing, but he asked me "Why do you think there's not a next Kanye, or a next Mac Miller, or the next whatever- or the next Drake?"
And I was like, because those artists were special and they weren't a guaranteed hit
They weren't a guaranteed success, but people took a chance on it
But today, the one time anybody signs an artist or even gives them a chance is when they already have a platform or concept or views or followers
So that forces every artist and every creator and every person with a beautiful mind to make things for views
You're supposed to make stuff and then market it, not make stuff to market it, you know?
So, I know my opinion doesn't mean shit, I'm just some random kid
But what I would say, um
Is if you're creating, don't let the views, the numbers, or any of that dictate what you make or what you feel cause the real ones that get it will connect
