[Verse 1]
Well, there's a billion different people who are wakin' up
To another light, to different rays
I can't apologise if I can't make it up
To make it right and help you believe
[Verse 2]
Well, I was careful with my end and if you only knew
That we overgrew and I was tryna outlast
Well, you were searchin' for my scream
And you were overdue and on we grew
[Chorus]
Our love was dying, it was dying in love
Darling, if you can't quite hear it
If the love is lost, it's speeding
And everything we had lays broken
Hold on to your hope ‘cause
I'll come through
Oh, I'll come through
[Verse 3]
I wanna talk, I wanna talk, don't wanna hide it
It never works, this suffering in silence
And all our friends remind us that
It works with them, that we should try again
But we just can't pretend
We're scared to try again
And it's a harder pill to swallow when you're broken too
Now you're overdue
[Chorus]
Our love was dying, it was dying in love
Darling, if you can't quite hear it
If the love is lost, it's speeding
And everything we had lays broken
Hold on to your hope ‘cause
I'll come through
Oh, I'll come through
[Instrumental Break]
[Chorus]
So darling, if you can't quite hear it
If the love is lost, it's speeding
And everything we had lays broken
Hold on to your hope ‘cause
I'll come through
Oh, I'll come through
Speaking to Notion in January 2020, frontman Josh said:
“Overdue” is about losing a child before it’s born. It’s about longing for something so badly for so long, only for it to be lost before it ever comes to pass. It’s about love & hope and trying to move forward as best we can.
