Outlaw John Dillinger Lyrics

Here’s the story of a foolish outlaw, John Dillinger was his name
He became a vicious killer and lived a life of shame
Decent people feared this menace since 1924
But his mad career is ended and he’ll never kill no more

To the Indiana prison in 1924, sentenced to 6 years in prison for robbing a grocery store
Then in nineteen hundred thirty he resumed his mad career
Of robbing and killing people, growing madder and bolder each year

Then he engineered that mad plot in 1933
Releasing 10 mad killers from the Michigan City jail
That year he was jailed in Lima but his gang soon set him free
And they killed good old sheriff Sarber who performed his duty well

In December they resumed their killing, officer Shanley he was slain
And then while robbing 1st national Bill Malley got the same
The gang was arrested in Tucson back to Crown Point they were sent
John escaped with a wooden pistol, and back to killing he went

For months and months they trailed him; Uncle Sam got in the fray
In July the 22nd, John Dillinger was made to pay
That’s the end of the foolish outlaw, take warning all young men
Just stay on the path that’s narrow and stay away from sin
