Outgoing

Headlights passing tinged the scene with pink colors/
That painted her still life on the screens of cinemas/
Doves scraped off skies like cream would sing of us/
While I stared at their bright time freezing wing flutters/
I was melting so senseless, so dead to all things/
But she anchored me to realism with her soft skin/
Lent an ear to all my problems and let me crawl in/
With a comfort not akin to what those other broads bring/
It was autumn on the cusp of that December depression/
When inertia taught revenge as a lesson/
But it all started to unravel half a month ago/
On a halcyon Monday when a coffee mug had broke/
She was standing there with both her pale hands unmoved/
With fear to match her absolute shock, all paid for/
With a loud explosion of uncalculated magnitude/
And green ceramic fragments strewn across the hallway floor/
Tipped with secrecy and answers like, "I'm fine/
I've just been such a klutz, I promise I'm alright"/
And she went in the kitchen, flipped the light switch on/
And I swear I saw her flicker in sync with the bulb/

And so it goes, when you feel the strings unravelling/
When the the skin starts crackling and all you know/
Has all begun vanishing, it's all off balance and/
You fall and fall, you fall and fall/

Staring at blue ripples of dim light up on the ceiling/
Exiting a dream, while losing count of times it had repeated/
I upheaved my face to see her silhouette in the room/
She was on her phone, the glow was firing pestilent hues/
I said something to break the ample silence/
And she spun around startled slightly as our eyes met/
The glow spiralled up like a spotlight catching diamonds/
As her phone plunged with a thud that was seismic/
But it didn't fumble from her fingers like she said in the moment/
I could see it crystal clear how it really unfolded/
It fell through her hands like they didn't exist/
And phased through her skin like some intricate trick/
So she broke down with sapphire tears streaming down/
She was saying she was sorry and she feared speaking out/
Scared of disappearing for good in an instant/
She looked like she meant it when the weird petered out/
We talked until normality had snuck into the bedroom/
With a false sense of gravity that loves to misdirect you/
She started sinking quickly through the hardwood floor/
One, then two legs screaming au revoir/
I shot my hand out to catch her and felt nothingness/
A feeling that could not be captured with an simple utterance/
I could barely comprehend feeling my lover dissolve/
But chased the noise down the steps to see her slumped at the door/
She was pushing herself up with hands that weren't there/
Tears ran down partial cheekbones with scant auburn hair/
And there were faint echoes of her voice flitting nowhere/
As she mouthed the words "I'm sorry", in the choked air/
It was cold, she was there and then she wasn't/
No dramatic flair and not fully aware of what resulted/
The door swung open, I saw birds of pink colors/
For a while I stared at their time burning wing flutters/
