Dancing around in your button-up coat
In a cabin of hammered hardwood notes
Beneath the trees, atop a blanket of leaves
It was built by a man in the 1960’s
Under the skeleton roof you wed a girl you just met
She shared some sangria and stayed up past sunset
And I watched you laughing with smeared black eyes
With a collection of stories from the previous night
A jug in one hand, half empty with wine

I robbed an Indian soul from a vacant porch
Placed it in the trunk, then got hungry for more
Stared down the street treasure finds
I didn’t trust my luck so I left them behind
Dancing around with your brown bear ears
Up a spiral staircase, you’re in love with your fears
And you watched me drown in the bottle quick
With ink in one hand trying not to be sick
