On The Rig

Well, I work on this steel skyscraper, on the stormy sea
And a two weeks shift on a rig, drags by like years
Hear the shouts of the roustabouts
Pumping oil for the ole' company
And an aching heart can't help what it hears

I hear the boys are laughing 'bout somebody's girl
And what empty nights can do to lonely wives
And I stare as the chopper takes some lucky sucker home
And I wonder what he'll find when he arrives

Me and my Mary talked about our sweet little dream
I'm gonna work out there for two more years or so, I think
If I save all my money, we're gonna buy somewhere safe and warm
Somewhere this cold, cold north wind won't blow

And I wonder how she's feeling
And I want to hurry home
And I can't help wondering
