[Chorus]
Honey pack up the kids 'cause we're headed to Omaha
In lieu of his family unknown
The paper says he was a Vietnam solider
And he needs some help getting back home
[Verse 1]
No there ain't nothing sadder than a black Cadillac
With a long trail of nothing behind
No tiger lillies, no babies, no whiskey
Living proof that lonely just died
[Chorus]
Honey pack up the kids 'cause we're headed to Omaha
In lieu of his family unknown
The paper says he was a Vietnam solider
And he needs some help getting back home
[Verse 2]
Yeah nobody knows who he was over there
Guess he'd like to keep it that way
Hell, it ain't no surprise that he didn't talk much
'Bout the things a guy takes to the grave
[Chorus]
Honey pack up the kids 'cause we're headed to Omaha
In lieu of his family unknown
The paper says he was a Vietnam solider
And he needs some help getting back home
[Verse 3]
Maybe after the funeral we can swing by the zoo
Let the kids see the monkeys and bears
Grab a late lunch on the way out of town
Let him sleep knowing somebody cared
[Chorus]
Honey pack up the kids 'cause we're headed to Omaha
In lieu of his family unknown
The paper says he was a Vietnam solider
And he needs some help getting back home
[Outro]
I'll call in sick
Honey, pack up the kids
'Cause we're headed to Omaha
Omaha was written by Erik Dylan.
Erik Dylan released Omaha on Sat Dec 01 2018.
I wrote this song after reading an article about a Vietnam War veteran who passed away this month without any known family. Thanks to an ad in the Omaha Daily Herald newspaper, nearly 1500 people helped lay Stanley Stoltz to rest. I wanted to pay tribute & my respects through a song.
