Sometimes I swim right upstream
The currents push and the ripples gleam on me
Do you know what I mean?

To find yourself in the thick of life
River flowing deep and white
You try, but it's passing you by

Open up my heart, open up my mind
If I went back to the start wonder what I'd find

Well, oceans over everything
No need to laugh, no need to sing, for joy
Into an infinite void

When I was just a little boy
Uninformed, unemployed and new
I let the river through

Never really asked, never really knew
Where I was coming from, where I was going to

Over time I've tried and strived to know
From where it comes to where it goes
But it's a hole I cannot fill
Insatiable, I want more still
