The song is about the painter Georgia O'Keeffe, who in 1929 left her unfaithful husband in New York to visit New Mexico. She eventually moved to Ghost Ranch, near Taos, and was inspired to paint Pedernal Mountain almost 30 times.
Left the city for a sky
It's so so much bigger than you and I
It's a shade of blue that you can't refuse
That you can't deny
I found a love I can't define
The photo [?] and the red wood pine
Clouds, rivers, mountain peaks
Desert sky my lover seeks
If you love me let me go
To Santa Fe, New Mexico
Hold me close, don't let me go
Pedernal Mountain, New Mexico
What you look for, what you find
Are treasures of a different kind
On the bone white sand, folds of land
Brush in your hand
The pull of love, the push to know
On the ocean plain New Mexico
It's my faraway
And it's where I'll stay
'Cause I made it so
If you love me let me go
To Santa Fe, New Mexico
Hold me close, don't let me go
Pedernal Mountain, New Mexico
If you love me let me go
To Santa Fe, New Mexico
Hold me close, let me go
To Pedernal Mountain, New Mexico
If you love me let me go
To Santa Fe, New Mexico
Hold me close, let me go
To Pedernal Mountain, New Mexico
