From a sleepy town
Map to the west
Got to make his way
Got to do his best
And so the ride begins
And out the window
To the right
Are countless rows
Of stars and stripes
So he knew what country he was in
And now the train
Is moving fast
Down the endless trail
Of broken glass
And things start to look worse
Across the parkways
Down to a crawl
And the spray can bullshit
Covers every wall
With misspelled hatred
And a curse
Every morning
It's always the same
From the window
Of that North Jersey Train
There's a factory
And around the back
Just a few feet
From the railroad track
Are somе dogs locked in a cage
And he would see
Thosе poor mutts run
Every time the train would come
It's the high spot of their day
Houses in east orange town
Some boarded up
And some burned down
Looks like they had a war
Across the river
Choked with debris
Through newer broad street
He can't see
Why this place is here at all
And tomorrow
It will all be the same
From the window
Of that North Jersey Train
Out on the wetlands
The weeds and the mud
Among the tires and the toxic sludge
Well the hands are getting wet
There's a Winnebago in the lake
What kind of person does it take?
And how did they get it there?
With a tear in his eye
And a pain in his heart
He looks to the sky
But then it all goes dark
The stars turn to dread
The Hudson river is now above his head
The sky left behind
And paranoid illusions fill his mind
But the end of the tunnel
He looks up again
New York City is swallowing him
But it seems too much to bear
He thinks
"Later when that sun goes down
I'm going back home to that sleepy town"
And the love that's waiting there
So tomorrow
He'll go through it all again
Every morning
Well it's always the same
All that sorrow
All the fear
And all the pain
That's out the window
Of that North Jersey Train
Through the window
Of the North Jersey Train
