My buddy Jeff blew his brains out
On the south shore of the lake
A lifetime of whatever
Was more than he could take
He helped me build my house
He helped a lot of folks
He gave his time and his money
He was perpetually broke

A few months before he did it
I was deep inside a hole
Shame-filled for the things I had done
He was the only one that saw mе
Lost in the abyss
Don't remembеr it exactly
But it went something like this:

Everybody is broken, sad and alone
Everybody is drifting along without a home
Everybody is shattered and burdened with flaws
But nobody is a lost cause

He had a tattoo on his arm
Of a stupid cartoon man poking out from behind a little wall
If you asked him what it was, he'd say:
"That's Murphy, you know Murphy's Law?
Anything that can go wrong will go wrong"

And it did, and it will, again and again
For as long as we are all alive
When a person is stuck in a terrifying pit
Only thing you can do is try to help them out of it
