“Neurology” is the b-side to Psychic TV’s “Roman P.” single.
The single is double-grooved, so that the voice of Charles Manson comes out of the left speaker as the Reverend Jim Jones speaks out of the right simultaneously, creating a disorienting, discomforting effect in the listener.
CHARLES MANSON (left speaker):
Why do I have to stand and take the blame for your sins again?
I spent my life in jail
Paying for you
So that you could ride your bicycles
Have your birthday parties
Have what you call a life
You know, I never had a life!
I don't even know what life is, you know?
I go to the desert - I'm not even allowed to live in your desert!
I'm no good for anything except to be used
As your scapegoat
I've been used - every day of my life, I've been used
And I have been used, and I have been on the...
On the street
I've been chased, robbed, harassed, pushed, kicked
My ribs have been broken, you know
The same man that gives you a traffic ticket
Is the same guy that knocks my brains out
They are sneakin' in the county jail
Lookin' under the door
You see the Man there
Lookin' like little children out of town
Sneakin' -- sneakin' all around the courthouse
Sneakin' in and out of their little Bentleys
Sneakin' everywhere
Everything is sneaky up around Sneakyville
Everything I have to do is... is
To get to the truth has to be sneaky
It seems a shame to sneak to get to the truth
To make the truth such an evil, dirty ol' nasty thing
You gotta sneak to get to the truth
The truth is condemned, the truth is in the gas chambers
The truth is in the ghettos, in the jails, when you've gone below
Look at the madness that goes on, you can't prove anything
That happened yesterday
Now is the only thing that's real
You can't prove anything!
There's nothing to prove!
Every man judges himself
He knows what he is
You know what you are as I know what I am
We all know what we are
Nobody can stand in judgement
They can play like they're standing in judgement
They can play like they're standing in judgement
Then take you off and control the masses
With your human body
And they can lock you up in penitentiary
Engage us and put you on crosses if they didn't [?]
That doesn't amount to anything
What they're doing is
They're only persecuting a reflection of themselves
They're persecuting what they can't stand to look at in themselves
The truth
They hate themselves!
Look at the signs
Stop - go - turn here - turn there
You can't do this, you can't do that
You can't, you can't, you can't
This is illegal, that's illegal, everything's... illegal
The police used to watch over the people
Now they're watching the people
THE REV. JIM JONES (right speaker):
It's only right to ask someone to be like I am!
I want you to be like I am, I want you to worship me!
I want you to be like I am!
I want you to become what I am!
I want you to enjoy the fearlessness that I have!
The courage that I have! The compassion that I have!
The love that I have! The all-encompassing mercy that I am!
I want you to be what I am and something greater!
I want you to give you more than I have!
I want you to be greater than I am!
And if you don't want to go this route
Then go to Hell where you want to, but don't bother me!
...healin' of the mind
Heal my toe, honey
Heal my back, heal my bottom
But don't you heal my mind
Cause my mind is too sick!
Christianity was never based on the idea of an unknown God
I'm gonna cause you to know that you are what Jesus was!
Jesus said that every human being was a god!
It is written that you're gods!
I'm a god and you're a god
And I'm a god
And I'm gonna stay a god until you recognize that you're a god
And when you recognize you're a god
I shuffle back into principle
And will not appear as a personality!
But until I see all of you knowing who you are
I'm going to be very much what I am - God, Almighty God!
Just remember
Nothin' worse than putting somebody in the corner
When they've tried over and over and over to do righteousness
And no one receive it
You get 'em in a corner - they're extremely dangerous
Extremely dangerous, aren't they?
And I think you can sense the hands of these people
That we are not a violent people
But we are extremely dangerous
Just remember, you don't have anything on me
That I care about
Cause everything that you have on me
I've lived all-- I'm right on the [?]
Now you get worried about yourself
I don't mind losing my life - what about you?
I don't mind losing my reputation - what about you?
I don't mind
I don't mind being tortured - what about you?
I'm just no longer afraid and I've lost interest in this old world
Of capitalist sin
Racism, I've lost interest in it
So if somebody wants to make me stay in it
By compromising with filthy-minded people
That cannot even have respect
For somebody that would die for even his enemies
And they want to cause anarchy in our midst
I would just as soon bring it all to a... gallant
A glorious screaming end
Just bring it to a screeching stop in one glorious moment of triumph
So you think about it
