“Montage Music” delves into the mythology of modern American culture, with the car as the focal point of a sort of worship. Brandon Hagen wrote an essay in which he fleshed out the themes of this song, and of Either Light as a whole.
[Verse 1]
At each other's throats, they shared a hope to catch a breath
You learn lizard ethics
And I'm not one for faith, but the Town Car Lincoln made
Just might be a godsend
Look at the way the actor smoked as he leaned and cuffed his coat
Think Jesus did rise again
And I won't stand for that, but try me, I might sit for it
Oh, baby, tell me good things
[Chorus]
Montage music
A brand new soul and a new set of clothes, I need
Montage music
A brand new soul and a new set of clothes
[Verse 2]
Mind might not be right but it might get you what you like
Another blood-stained refrain
Baby, how well can you wear your cross to bear?
You suffer fools like God's only
I want a life outside of pain, The Price Is Right and sour cream
A Midsummer's Night Dream
And I won't stand for that, but try me, I might sit for it
Oh, baby, tell me good things
[Bridge]
To make me whole again
Oh, here we go again
To make me whole again
Oh, here we go again
To make me whole again
Oh, here we go again
To make me whole again
I need, I need, I need, I need, I need
[Chorus]
Montage music
A brand new soul and a new set of clothes, I need
Montage music
A brand new soul and a new set of clothes, I need
Montage music
A brand new soul and a new set of clothes, I need
Montage music
A brand new soul and a new set of clothes
[Outro]
Montage music
Montage music
Montage music (What you need?)
I need montage music (What you need?)
(Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh)
I need montage music (Woah, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh)
Your tea is burning
In a pot with no water
And I sit (Mm-hmm) and I see
In the black smoke next to father
Montage music, montage music
Montage music, montage music
