Credited on the album to ‘Little Kirk’ the artist Kirk Davis used to go by that name back in the 1980’s when this song was released. This is Davis' reggae version/cover of the world famous original performed of course by the late great Michael Jackson.
[Intro]
I'm gonna make a change
For once in my life
It's gonna be real good
Gonna make a difference
Gonna make it right
[Verse 1]
And as I turn up the collar on my favourite winter coat
This wind is blowin' my mind
I saw the kids on the street, without enough to eat
But will the eye to be blind, pretending not to see their need?
A summer's disregard, a broken bottle top
And one man's soul
They follow each other on the wind, ya know
'Still they got nowhere to go
That's when I want you to know
[Chorus]
I'm starting with the man in the mirror, oh yeah
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make a world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make a change
[Verse 2]
I've been a victim of a selfish kind of love
It's time that I realise
There is some with no home
They gotta [?]
Would it be, would it be pretending that it's not? Oh no
Or wear a deep disguise, somebody's broken heart
And a washed out dream
They follow the pattern of the wind, ya see
Still they got no place to be
That's why I'm starting with me
[Chorus]
I'm starting with the man in the mirror, oh yeah
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make a world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make a change
I'm starting with the man in the mirror
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make a world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make that change
[Outro]
I'm starting with the man in the mirror
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could have
