“LOVE.” finds Kendrick Lamar musing on the woman in his life; presumably his fiancé Whitney Alford, whom he has been in a relationship with since his high school days. Kendrick uses this ballad to ask the essential questions to his partner to solidify the most important aspect of their relationship:...
[Intro: Kendrick Lamar]
Damn, love or lust
Damn, all of us
[Chorus: Zacari & Kendrick Lamar]
Give me a run for my money
There is nobody, no one to outrun me
(Another world premiere)
So give me a run for my money
Sippin' bubbly, feelin’ lovely, livin' lovely
Just love me
I wanna be with you, ayy, I wanna be with
Just love me, just love me, just love
I wanna be with you, ayy, I wanna be with
Love me
I wanna be with you
Love me, just love me
[Refrain: Kendrick Lamar & Zacari]
If I didn't ride blade on curb, would you still love me?
If I minimized my net worth, would you still love me?
Keep it a hundred, I’d rather you trust me than to love me
Keep it a whole one hund', don't got you, I got nothin' (Uh, uh)
[Verse 1: Kendrick Lamar]
Ayy, I got somethin'
Hol' up, we gon' function, ayy, no assumptions, ayy
Feelin' like Tyson with it
Knock it out twice, I’m with it
Only for the night, I’m kiddin'
Only for life, yeah, homie for life, yeah
Only for life, let’s get it
Hit that shoulder lean
I know what comin' over me
Backstroke oversea
I know what you need
Already on ten, all money come in
All feeling go out, this feeling don't drought
This party won't end
[Refrain: Kendrick Lamar & Zacari]
If I didn’t ride blade on curb, would you still love me?
If I minimized my net worth, would you still love me?
Keep it a hundred, I'd rather you trust me than to love me
Keep it a whole one hund', don't got you, I got nothin' (Uh, uh)
[Chorus: Zacari & Kendrick Lamar]
Give me a run for my money
There is nobody, no one to outrun me
So give me a run for my money
Sippin' bubbly, feelin' lovely, livin' lovely
Just love me
I wanna be with you, ayy, I wanna be with
Just love me, just love me, just love
I wanna be with you, ayy, I wanna be with
Love me
I wanna be with you
Love me, just love me
[Verse 2: Kendrick Lamar & Zacari]
I'm on the way
We ain't got no time to waste
Poppin' your gum on the way love me
Am I in the way?
I don't wan' pressure you none
I want your blessing today love me
Oh, by the way, open the door by the way
Told you that I'm on the way love me
I'm on the way, I know connection is vague
Pick up the phone for me, babe
Dammit, we jammin'
Bad attitude from yo' nanny
Curves and your hips from yo' mammy
Remember Gardena, I took the studio Camry
I know Top will be mad at me
I had to do it, I want your body, your music
I bought the big one to prove it
Look what you made
Told you that I'm on the way
I'm like a exit away, yep
[Refrain: Kendrick Lamar & Zacari]
If I didn't ride blade on curb, would you still love me?
If I minimized my net worth, would you still love me?
Keep it a hundred, I'd rather you trust me than to love me
Keep it a whole one hund', don't got you, I got nothin' (Uh, uh)
[Chorus: Zacari & Kendrick Lamar]
Give me a run for my money
There is nobody, no one to outrun me
So give me a run for my money
Sippin' bubbly, feelin' lovely, livin' lovely
Just love me
I wanna be with you, ayy, I wanna be with
Just love me, just love me, just love me
I wanna be with you, ayy, I wanna be with
Love me
I wanna be with you
Love me, just love me

I met Kendrick after The Sun’s Tirade came out. I was in the studio with [producer] Teddy Walton, who’s doing a lot of my project as well. Moosa was telling me he’d get me a session with Kendrick soon, so we were getting ready for that. We got it in with him, and that’s pretty much based off ’cause...
I think it was late last year, like toward the end of the year. When I played [the song] for Kendrick, he asked me to send it to him, and then we sent it to him. The very next day he was asking for stems to record. After he took the stems, he kind of just took off with it and killed it.
I found that out probably three months ago or so. I wasn’t a hundred percent for sure that it made the album, but I knew that he had recorded and made a whole song to it at that point. I found out that it made the album last month. You know how albums be changing all the time.
It wasn’t significantly different, he added a lot to the track. I love what he did with it. He filled in a lot of spaces. I’m singing a lot through the track, so for a rapper to come on it and not oversaturate the track, I think it worked out pretty well. It sounds really dope.
It’s always different. Like with “Love,” it’ll usually start with one phrase and I’ll build from there, and then sometimes I’ll write on paper, but most of the time I’ll get a beat, I’ll put it on, and I’m usually recording myself so I’ll start freestyling. Usually I’ll come up with a hook and a fir...
I met Teddy at this place Bryson Tiller was staying at, it’s like an AirBnB studio, and I was only going over there because of J-Louis, he’s Bryson’s DJ/Producer. He’s like my roommate and he produces a lot of my stuff as well, he’s my homie. So I’d be there a lot, and then someone brought Teddy the...
I have to start out with a few acoustic artists because that’s how I started writing songs and singing, by covering. I started out covering John Mayer songs. Justin Nozuka is one of my favorite writer-singers. Other than that, Prince, Freddie Mercury, Michael Jackson of course, I love Rage Against t...
I play guitar, drums, and I can play piano as well. I also can play ukulele. My mom helped me learn drums—she’s a drummer. She taught me my first song on guitar, and then I took off from there because of YouTube. Anybody can learn guitar on YouTube now, it’s pretty cool. Saxophone I learned in schoo...
My mom’s favorite song of mine… I actually wrote her a song for her birthday so I think that’s her favorite song. I think it’s on YouTube somewhere honestly.
Yes—all the songs on DAMN. except “HUMBLE.” were leaked on Audio Premieres hours prior to DAMN.’s midnight release.
