This song was written for the 1996 film The Birdcage as a number for Albert (Nathan Lane) to sing in his drag show. The song wound up being heard only briefly in the film as Albert tries to rehearse with a gum-chewing dancer, but it is performed in full on the soundtrack album.

What is this dream
I see?
Why does it seem
So real to me?
What if this dream
Turns out to be
More than a dream?
Come, little dream
And play
Don't be afraid
Don't fade away
Quick, little dream
Before you're gone
You are the dream
And I the dreamer
Each night anew
Tell me, my dream
Are you a dreamer, too?
And of who?
And if you are my dream
Come true
Why do I feel

Are you my dream
Or am I yours instead?
Either way

And I the dreamer
Each night anew
Tell me, my dream
Are you a dreamer, too?
And of who?
And if you are my dream
Come true
Why do I feel
Unreal
With you?
Are you my dream
Or am I yours instead?
Either way
Little dream
Supreme
I say
"Full steam
Ahead!"
