An excerpt from Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel, Dune.
The litany is an incantation used by the Bene Gesserit (a religious sisterhood with incredible intellect and powers) throughout the Dune series to focus their minds and calm themselves in times of peril.
Paul Atreides, the son of Duke Leto Atreides...
I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.
Frank-herbert released Litany Against Fear on Sun Aug 01 1965.
