The idea behind this track comes from the Book of Lamentations. We see at the very beginning that the author is lamenting about the fate of Israel. It’s a very beautiful poem and I wanted to adapt it into something modern and fresh.
[Verse 1]
I got a job I really love
And it pays me well
But I’m fearing that I’m stuck
On this paper trail
Don’t want to make no life decision
Based on what I make
But things are changing every week
And I got bills to pay
It’s been a while
But I still feel like a child
22 years old
I’m fighting for survival
Run for miles
Hoping that I see the King’s arrival
Thank God that I know The Judge
Going through the trials
Put me on the stand
Ask me questions I don’t know
Damage Nathan’s reputation
Put an end to all my goals
Tell my momma that I’m gone
Burn up every bit of hope
Tell the Lord I’m coming home
Praying there’s a place to go
I was told that no matter where you run
You cannot run away
But at least it’s worth the try
This place was never safe
Never stay anywhere
That tries to bring up all your shame
Come with me
We’ll find a home we can appreciate
[Verse 2]
I feel like I’m headed nowhere
There’s still some time to figure out a plan
It’s hard to function
Even though I know it’s in your hands
Wait a minute
Ain’t you said you with me in the valley?
How come I don’t hear your voice
Or feel your touch when I’m stuck in the sand?
Wait a minute
Ain’t you said I never have to worry?
That my story has been written
If I live to show you glory?
Everything will work together
Better than I could do for me?
But I’m standing in the desert
Waiting on you to support me
I feel like I’m headed nowhere
I can’t reach Jehovah
I want you to hold me
Sleeping on the sofa
She don’t even know me
I want my diploma
This is all below me
Where’s my terra nova
I need something holy
Something in this life
To keep me satisfied and safe
There’s a storm, I know it’s coming
But can I avoid the rain?
When these tragedies surround me
How can I destroy the pain?
I don’t want to lose my life
But I don’t mind if I don’t stay
[Outro]
Where are you going, Cole?
