This is a song about an idol and musician that the lead singer of The Movielife has never met and admires from afar.
[Verse 1]
I heard about your appearance at the party that no one went to
In your own sick way, you've always given me everything
I never want to see you so all alone
Pick up the phone and breathe to me
[Chorus 1]
I don't know why I feel more drunk when I get sober
And I'll never know why you let it pull you under
All I ever needed was a real friend
And I got one in Lake Superior
[Verse 2]
You wouldn't believe the price of being honest with yourself (No)
You'd be tossing a dime to the man in the cardboard box
I want to wake up when it's over
Wake me up and marry me
[Chorus 1]
I don't know why I feel more drunk when I get sober
And I'll never know why you let it pull you under
All I ever needed was a real friend
And I got one in Lake Superior
In Lake Superior
[Instrumental Break]
[Chorus 2]
I don't know why I feel more drunk when I get sober
And I'll never know why you let it pull you under
You don't have to say it to mean it, I know
[Chorus 3/Outro]
(In Lake Superior)
All I ever needed was a real friend and I got one
(In Lake Superior)
All I ever wanted was some good friends and I've got some
(In Lake Superior)
All I ever needed was a real friend and I got one
(In Lake Superior)
All I ever wanted was some good friends and I've got some
[Acoustic Outro]
Lake Superior was written by Vinnie Caruana.
Lake Superior was produced by Brett Romnes.
The Movielife released Lake Superior on Fri Sep 22 2017.
In this BUILD Series interview, Vinnie doesn’t reveal who the song is about, but drops a few hints:
[“Lake Superior"] is about about an artist, a singer, who has been there for me so many times in my life without him knowing, so I wrote a song to him. I don’t know him. He’s an idol and most times I...
I believe the song is an homage to Gordon Lightfoot and his song “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” about a ship that sank to the bottom of Lake Superior in 1975, killing 29 men. Immediately afterward, Lightfoot wrote the song, which went on to become very popular and immortalized that event.
