Kurt Cobains Last Days Annotated

The American rock band Nirvana and the trio's singer, guitarist and songwriter Kurt Cobain forever wrote themselves into rock history with the album ”Nevermind” and the song ”Smells Like Teen Spirit” They became prominent figures in what is known as grunge rock.
The album was released in September 1991 and by January 1992 had knocked Michael Jackson's "Dangerous" from the top spot on the US charts. "Nevermind" has sold 30 million copies. Kurt Cobain died in 1994, aged just 27. Rolling Stone magazine wrote about "Nevermind”

"No album in modern times has had such an overwhelming impact on an entire generation... and such a disastrous effect on its main creator." Rolling Stone magazine wrote about "Nevermind": "No album in modern times has had such an overwhelming impact on an entire generation... and such a disastrous effect on its main creator."

Kurt Cobain's friends, colleagues and wife and artist Courtney Love had long been concerned about his depression and severe drug abuse. Many had tried to get him to accept professional help. The spring of 1994 was chaotic. Here are his final days, as Rolling Stone magazine describes them.

March 3. Kurt Cobain attempts suicide in a hotel room in Rome, Italy, and is hospitalized for five days.

March 18. A family argument in the Seattle villa ends with Kurt Cobain locking himself in a room with a gun and Courtney Love calling the police - who confiscate four guns and several bottles of pills.

March 25. A large number of friends, band members and family gather at the house on Lake Washington Boulevard in Seattle to conduct an "intervention" and make Cobain understand that he needs to seek help.

March 30. Kurt Cobain buys a new gun at Stan's Gun Shop, leaves it at his house in Seattle, flies to Los Angeles and checks into a drug rehab clinic.

April 1. After two days at the heavily guarded clinic, Kurt Cobain manages to escape. He flies home to Seattle.

April 2. Courtney Love hires private investigators to track her husband and freezes all of his credit cards.

April 4. Kurt Cobain's mother, Wendy O'Connor, reports her son missing and suicidal.

April 5. Kurt Cobain barricades himself in the greenhouse at his home on Lake Washington Boulevard in Seattle with a quantity of drugs, mostly heroin, and a firearm – and takes his own life.

April 6. Police ask workers outside Cobain's house if they have seen him, but the police never enter the house.

April 7. Courtney Love overdoses at the Peninsula Hotel in Los Angeles, is taken to hospital and then checks into the same clinic that her husband left a week earlier.

April 8. An electrician finds Kurt Cobain dead in the greenhouse in Seattle.

The official cause of death is that Kurt Cobain took his own life on April 5, 1994. However, many other theories have questioned this and several documentaries have been made and several books written that suggest that he was in fact murdered.
In the book “In love and death: The murder of Kurt Cobain”, the authors launch the theory that his wife Courtney Love was involved in the murder and that the suicide note is a forgery. This theory has been proven wrong and what happened was not a murdur, it was a suicide.
