Canadian punk band PUP released Kill Something, along with the song Waiting, on the 9th of November 2021. The song is written from the perspective of a pet dog with a depressed owner, similar to Plea From A Cat Named Virtute by fellow Canadian band The Weakerthans, a song that PUP have covered.
[Verse 1]
I swear I'm breaking out of here
The things you want are still unclear
I'm sick of gnawing on these tired bones
While you cycle through the words I know
[Chorus]
And if I've got nothing to prove
Why do I do the things I do?
[Verse 2]
I growl at the sadness that's been eating you
I watch you disappear, I don't know what I should do
When every little thing seems to set you off
I try to get you off the couch, drag you around the block
[Chorus]
And if I've got nothing to prove
Why do I do the things I do?
I don't want to be locked up
Just want to kill something I love
Wouldn't that be enough?
[Bridge]
I'm biting back
Growling with a grin
When everything you love comеs caving in
Just want to kill something I love
(Over and ovеr and over)
Just want to kill something I love
(Over and over and over)
Just want to kill something I love
(Over and over and over)
Just want to kill something I love
(Over and over and over)
[Outro]
And if I've got nothing to prove
Why do I do the things I do?
I don't want to be locked up
