In an interview with American Songwriter, Madison shared,
‘Kerosene’ is a song from a time in my life when I wasn’t yet ready to accept healthy romantic love. I wrote it almost to caution potential partners that while I craved a fun fling to pass the time, I wasn’t in the headspace for commitment.
[Verse 1]
You were raised on righteous love
I was brought up in a burning house
You dried your hands on monogrammed towels
Ones I used to put out fires and shield my mouth
I met your type you'd like to settle me down
While I drown your picket fence in gasoline
[Pre-Chorus]
Well if you lie here I'll keep you warm
Just until you find the one
[Chorus]
I'll burn through you like kerosene
I'll strike a match but no spark's guaranteed
[Verse 2]
You need light so we take it outside
I would die to taste the ash on your tongue
My hеart is ember, but you make mе feel young
When I kiss that jawline carved for cinema
[Pre-Chorus]
Well if you lie here I'll keep you warm
Just until you find the one
[Chorus]
I'll burn through you like kerosene
I'll strike a match but no spark's guaranteed
I'll smoke you but the high ain't cheap
I'll burn through you like kerosene
[Outro]
You were raised on righteous love
I was brought up in a burning house
