This song is made up of two voice memos. The first half is me talking out loud to myself while driving, trying to accept the impending changes of a shifting relationship. The second half was recorded two weeks later, in a jam session with my friends Malik and Telana.
I just replayed through the entire scene over in my head, start to finish about if I took one outcome versus the other. And I still ended up talking myself back into goodbye. Even if I chose to stick around and go with the flow and continue existing in this limbo up in the air when I know I'm more grounded than this... is only a waste of time because at the end of the day, I'll realize that I don't have time for this and then I'm gonna walk in his room and it's gonna feel just like it felt now when I look at him and he's a stranger. And it's like seeing someone that you haven't seen in a year and you come back and they're totally different, yet they're still the same and you just see how their energy's changed and how they feel taller to you. And really it's just their energy's become bigger and evolved. But you still, at the end of the day, go your separate ways. Because you've outgrown that person and they've outgrown you. And it's a different phase
What are we running, running, running, running from?
What are we running, running, running, running from?
What are we running, running, running, running from?
What are we running, running, running, running from?
What are we running, running, running, running from?
