When was this written?
I wrote this during the spring. That spring was an interesting time, I think I found myself a little artistically. But yeah, I had my lows, and moments of feeling lost and out. I think this song captures two sides of me well: the hungry Jonny and the hurt Jonny.
Is it true that this song almost didn't come out?
Yeah, I almost didn’t release this one. I was so unsure of my vocals, and everything, and thinking to myself “How are people gonna react?” But, I gotta stop doing that, and artists in similar kicks of mine gotta stop doing that too. Maybe drop that demo to get criticism, it don’t hurt.
In what way does this interpolate Reminder?
The flow here is very reminiscent of Reminder’s. Definitely inspired by that song and the air it exudes, and I’m paying homage to one of my favorite artists & main inspirations in The Weeknd.
Did you think this would get the reception it has garnered?
No way. In fact, I thought people would be split on this song, but the reaction has been, in a good way, pretty much unanimous, which still surprises me to this day.
