III. The Mosaic

Take all the sadness, still never quelled
Dissect the misery, let it meld
With all the traumas past, slow burn them down to green glass
Abstract the contrast

Under a lens you may see blood and bone
You’ll see the sorrow blur the edge of the whole
But if you step back slowly, widening your focus
In broken glass you’ll catch a glow

How does anything evolve before it decays?
How do you find the light when you sleep through the days?
How do you pull yourself together when fractured in so many ways?
It starts with learning to love
It starts when death turns to growth
It starts with holding on to life and never letting it go

We’re painted with joy, sculpted by grief
And tragedy can be just a path leading, weaving into beauty unseen

I couldn’t be
Who I’m meant to be
Without finding peace
In every perfect broken piece
I see clear the mosaic revealed

I know I’m blessed to speak of healing so
Countless the lives whose beauty never were known
This world’s a storm so violent
Apathy and silence
Is hope too lost to find us?

And in this fading light, do we await a dawn?
Cause if the end’s in sight, then tell me, why go on?

Bleed, seep, from the cuts made by jagged edges
All our broken systems, horrific scenes, I can’t forget it
Is the collective image we create one of regression?
One of doom impending? Or misery’s ending?

All along, so afraid
So misled as to what defines brave
Hide our love, show our rage
And mistake the true weakness for strength

We’ll only find our way when love is the depiction
The only path to change, is being love envisioned
To be the love in every day, to cease to harbor hate
To be the kind of love that once inspired faith

Faith in us
Though true these words
“the greatest is love”

But what can I say, yeah, how can I speak of love?
I’ve never really given anyone enough
And far too often how I have rushed
To anger when convinced that that’s no longer who I was
The lines of change are ill defined
The shapes we make within our minds
And I hope in time, I hope it’s love I leave behind

‘Cause I know that hate, hate only stems from the loss
Of the only thing we ever really need at all
Our glimpse of each other, so very small
A mono-colored fragment of an endless vibrant sprawl

We all have pain we hide inside, repeating cycles, living lies
And you saw all mine, but still your love abounds

I remember you say, you said when it comes to love
It could never ever ever ever be enough

We’ll make it home, a place to grow
Gold from indigo, and ignite a brighter glow

To learn to take the pain in stride, the hurricane that is this life

Our hearts keep running and I know that it’ll be enough
