If Rifles Shot Roses
I wish rifles shot roses
And records never scratched
A pack a day didn’t turn grandaddies lungs black
Wish beer always stayed cold
And old dogs didn’t die
That people smiled Sunday morning
Like Saturday night
Wish blue skies would stay blue
Families would stay glued
The bloom would never come off the rose
Wish hometowns could stay small
Hearts wouldn’t build walls
And that I’d leave the devils door closed
Lord knows if I could I would sure wish you back
If rifles shot roses and
Records never scratched
I wish winters went quicker
All that glittered was gold
That you didn’t have to face a storm
To see a rainbow
Wish I was better at saying what’s on my mind
Wish I could learn to move on or at least turn back time
Wish blue skies would stay blue
True love would stay true
The bloom would never come off the rose
Wish hometowns could stay small
Hearts wouldn’t build walls
And time wouldn’t heal so damn slow
And I’d stop trying to glue back
All of this shattered glass
If rifles shot roses and
Records never scratched
Wish sunsets and streetlights
Wild flowers on the roadside
Didn’t remind me of you
Wish i could write me a song
That would sing you back home
I’d sing it till my face turned blue
Lord knows if i could
I would sure wish you back
Cause you are the best friend
That I’ve ever had
If we could rise from these ashes
I’d strike every match
If rifles shot roses and records never scratched
