The stereo version of “I’m Only Dreaming” (released in March 1968 on There Are But Four Small Faces, the American version of their 1967 Small Faces album) features a different vocal take from Steve Marriott that changes the lyrics and outro ad-libs slightly.
[Verse 1]
If the smile on my face
Doesn’t mean much anymore
Then it’s all been just a waste of time
So won’t you close your door?
[Verse 2]
But when I look into your eyes
I feel there’s still something there
That something’s all I need to hold on to
I can lie to myself
[Pre-Chorus]
But I still care, I still care about the way
And the little things you’d say
Won’t you please come out to play?
[Chorus]
I’m only dreaming
I'm only dreaming
Hey!
[Bridge]
What good does dreaming do
When you’re nowhere, yeah? Oh
I got nobody to hold on to, yeah
But I keep on smiling, crying
[Verse 2]
See me walking down the street
Just turn your hеad and walk away
‘Cause by now, you ought to know how I feel
And there’s no morе
[Chorus]
I’m only dreaming
I’m only dreaming
[Outro]
Ooh! Hey!
Oh, yeah
You got to know what I mean
Hey, yeah
You gotta
What about the high-low?
