At the climax of the show, Mary appears in the Capitol and quashes the impeachment proceedings against John by informing Congress (and John) that she’s pregnant. The U.S. Senators immediately vote to acquit John on the grounds of his impending fatherhood, and John reacts to the news by fainting.
(Spoken intro)
[MARY]
Before you go any further, with your permission, I must tell of my husband's delicate condition
[SENATORS]
Delicate condition? What do you mean?
(Song)
[MARY]
I'm about to be a mother
He's about to be a father
We're about to have a baby
I must tell it
These doings compel it
Oh, I'm about to be a mother
You're about to be a father
We're about to have a baby
[SENATORS]
A baby?
[MARY]
A baby to love and adore
Who could ask for anything more?
[SENATORS]
She's about to be a mother
He's about to be a father
They're about to have a baby
We can't bother
A budding young father
(Spoken outro)
[JOHN]
Mary, is it true? Am I going to be a father?
[MARY]
It's true, John
[JOHN]
Water!
