Written in Upstate New York at a writer’s AirBnB, ‘Houdini’ combines themes from Jade Bird’s youth and from her relationships. [Verse 1]
It's a quarter to three, and it's clear, clear to me that you're leavin'
Usually we don't come, come to blows 'til the evenin'
Now the neighbors are out, on the street
Tryna hear what we're screamin' about
[Chorus]
Oh, if they need a one-to-one
A reason or an explanation
If they need lessons on leavin'
I'll send them to you, Houdini
[Verse 2]
Oh, you're lookin' at me like you can quite believe what you're feelin'
But I've always known that you'd go without giving a reason
Oh, you start a war, slam the door, throw it all in my face
So I don't want you to stay
[Chorus]
If thеy need a one-to-one
A reason or an еxplanation
If they need lessons on leavin'
I'll send them to you, Houdini
[Bridge]
I'll make my day and trade your place
With anyone who's not walkin' away again
I blame each escapade on my mistakes
For not lettin' all this end
[Chorus]
If they need a one-to-one
A reason or an explanation
If they need lessons on leavin'
I'll send them to you, Houdini
If they need a one-to-one
A reason or an explanation
If they need lessons on leavin'
I'll send them to you, Houdini
[Outro]
Hmm, hmm
Hmm, hmm
Houdini was written by Lucky Kilmartin & Jade Bird.
Houdini was produced by Dave Cobb.

In the first burst, I’m actually shadowing this argument my parents had when I was very small and I was second-hand party to. The neighbours were out on the street trying to hear what they’re screaming about. It was all chaotic. And then the chorus, I decided to use this metaphor as the fact that me...
