I went downtown on a sunny day
At the wheel of my brand new car
Then I tried to find a handy place to park
Where I wouldn't have to walk too far
So, I drove around for half an hour
Just lookin' for a likeless spot
Then I saw a sign sayin'
Henry Hannah's 42nd Street Parking Lot
So, I drove right up and the man inside
Put his coffee down and checked me in
He had a dog blue shirt and a Panama hat
And a four-inch scar on his chin
He sent me out to the second floor
Where the air was still and hot
And I parked my car at
Henry Hannah's 42nd Street Parking Lot
The engine stopped and I found myself
Lookin' right down the barrel of a gun
A voice said "Hey boys don't make a move
For thirty days I'm on the run
And I need your car and another suit
And all the money you got"
Well, it happened that way at
Henry Hannah's 42nd Street Parking Lot
I got right out and I quickly saw
The four-inch scar on the chin
I said "You're the man with the Panama hat
That kindly checked me in"
He said "That right and don't regret
You're the second guy who's gonna get shot
On the second floor at
Henry Hannah's 42nd Street Parking Lot"
Well, I gonna admit I was scared a bit
And I thought of my wife and my kids
So, you can put the blame on the coward in me
For doing what I finally did
I gave him my suit and the keys to the car
And all the dollar bills I got
Then I ran like hell from
Henry Hannah's 42nd Street Parking Lot
Well, I drove downtown later on that day
In the back of a black police car
But, we couldn't find Henry Hannah's place
Or a man with a four-inch scar
Then, at last, the truth began to dawn on me
I've been the victim of a devious plot
Cause' there's no such place as
Henry Hannah's 42nd Street Parking Lot
They took me home in my vest and short
A confused and a nervous man
Trying to think of a better excuse
My wife might understand
Well, I've lost my wife
And I've lost my job
And the rest is best forgot
You can blame it all on
Henry Hannah's 42nd Street Parking Lot
So, if you drive downtown on a sunny day
When the air is still and hot...
Don't park your car at
Henry Hannah's 42nd Street Parking Lot
Cause the ain't no such place, baby!
