“Helium” is the twelfth and final song on The Connells' 2021 album “Steadman’s Wake.” The band had been playing the song for several years at shows before releasing it on the album.
Helium light
And partially razed
I still remember the sight
I was amazed
Minimum cool
And oxygen spent
I still remember the speed
Of my own descent
And a “what we’d never known”
Turned to “what we’d never know”
And your “somewhere out there’s
Where I’d really like to go”
And there are things that couldn’t be real
I’m lighter than helium
It must have been warm
Your top was still down
I still remember thе way
To that side of town
And the messagе that I sent
Wasn’t what I really meant
And my castoff, blast off, hats off
Wasn’t time well spent
And there’s things that couldn’t be real
I’m lighter than helium
(Guitar solo)
And the "what we’d never been”
Turned to “what we’d never be”
And that school boy, fool boy, new boy
Wasn’t really me
And there are things couldn’t be real
I’m lighter than helium
Yeah, there’s things that couldn’t be real
I’m lighter than helium
Yeah, there’s things that couldn’t be real
I’m lighter than helium (all right)
I’m lighter than helium (all right)
Lighter than helium (all right, all right)
(Trumpet/guitar outro)
