[Interview: Mac Miller]
Nah, but I'm sayin'
They just do that, like, they jump to conclusions
You know, they're just like... "White, rapper" (Eminem)
Like, "poppin'," Eminem
[Interview: Tyler, the Creator]
"Does the hype change your view on life?"
Yes, it kinda sucks
'Cause people are expecting shit
But they don't know anything
Because it's just hype
They don't really know history or anything
They just know one song and then
Go based on that
And that shit sucks
[Interview: Mac Miller]
I don't really care, like, what the whole comparison thing is
'Cause I expected that, you know
When I, when I started rapping, you know
People were like, "Oh, so what? You're gonna be, like, the next Eminem?"
And it was like, no (Annoying, right?)
I'm just gonna be, like me (Me)
[Interview: J. Cole]
So what exactly is on your chest?
Man, it's a lot of things
It's a lot of uhh, personal things
Um, whether it's family or just stuff that I'm goin' through
You know, in my career
And it's a lot of things people are goin' through (Yeah)
That I feel like other rappers might not discuss
So, that's—those are the things that I wanna talk about
Just, things that you might—that other rappers might smack themselves and be like, "Aww, why didn't I make a song about that?" (Yeah)
You know what I'm sayin'?
That's the type of music I make
[Interview: Angela Yee]
Anybody who's gonna be a rapper, an emcee
You have to think like, I'ma be huge—or else why would you do it?
[Interview: J. Cole]
If you're a rapper and I'm your favorite rapper
You're gonna obviously, you know, step your game up lyrically
So I feel like in essence, I can change the game
And probably in a way that I don't even know
[Interview: Mac Miller]
In my eyes, and what I wanna do is
When, when I leave, like
I wanna be remembered forever
For, for changing music as a whole
Not just rap, not just whatever
Not just some white dude
Like, I wanna change music
I want to be a part of music forever
[Interview: J. Cole]
Like, of course—we're always—we're rappers
It's in our nature to just talk about money and cars and, and women
That's, that's, you know, that's the nature of the music
It's party, it's fun
But at the end of the day, there's also a creative and artistic part that like, goes further than that
And I feel like that's what I'm diving into on a lot of these songs
[Interview: Mac Miller]
Man, no—you—it's hard to ever—
Did you ever think you were gonna make it this far—far—far?
