The late Johnny Horton was one of my best friends and I remember one night, after the show we played in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, we were driving that old car across the- the snow, across the ice, the icy roads, going down to Regina, I believe. And driving along that night, without accompaniment, we wrote and sang, for the first time, this song
