Theres many types of friends. Yeah, I know this
The type you share a smoke with or a joke with
The type you share your fears and hopes with
The type you wanna fight, but only cause they call you on your bullshit
That one drug dealer that you got close with
Old friends who reminisce about old shit
The internet affiliates you never meet
And the kids you grew up with on your street that go super deep
Some are weekend only
And others are obligatory workplace homies
And on occasion if you need a little space
It's good enough to get acquainted with a book and its pages
All sizes, all ages, all races
Young fat black friends, skinny ass old asians
That one friend who met your other friend and now they're buds
Those we used to have sex ones... and still
You haven't even met your next friend
They could be your boyfriend or girlfriend or best friend
A special shoutout to the ex-friends
Who might come back into your life right when you least expect it

But the friends that we need
Are the friends that will cut when a friend says bleed
Who don't have to stay in touch just to stay up to speed
Feel like no time passed when you finally reconvene
Cause pieces of them are a part of me
What's a heart in the absence of its arteries?
It's hard to see, but you'll know it when you have it
May grow apart, but never break completely it's elastic
The type of friend that wouldn't even need a warning
When you tell them that you need them on a Tuesday morning
