Fame & Feminism Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I had a dream in the middle of the night
I saw myself on a stage standing under the spotlight
And now I know that dream was made just for me
This world of yours was made for people just like you
Who are straight and white and male and can tie their own shoes
But now I know I gotta make this world for me

[Pre-Chorus]
But dreams don't just happen by themselves
They take hard work and you sometimes fail
But I won't give up I won't stop until I do
I wanna make my dream come true

[Chorus]
I wanna see my name in lights shining all over town
I want the fame and the fortune and I want it all right now
I wanna hear you scream my name and sing my songs
If this is my one song glory I'll ride it the whole way along

[Verse 2]
I had a dream it was just the other day
Where women didn't have to fight for your respect or for equal pay
But now I know that dreams still so far away
This world of mine was made for people just like me
Who believe we can make our dreams come true despite what we've been through
But now I know that dream is gonna set me free

[Pre-Chorus]
But dreams don't just happen by themselves
They take hard work and you sometimes fail
But I won't give up I won't stop until I do
I wanna make my dream come true

[Chorus]
I wanna see my name in lights shining all over town
I want the fame and the fortune and I want it all right now
I wanna hear you scream my name and sing my songs
If this is my one song glory I'll ride it the whole way along
Oh-oh!

[Bridge-spoken]
Now in all fairness we're deluding ourselves if we think women have equal rights in this world
We all know women have a harder time most of the time in this life, As do people of colour and the disabled and I'm two and a half out of three of those things
Now you can turn off this song and complain "oh she's being a social justice warrior"
I am
Get over it
I mean here I was writing this song about fame and fortune
And try as I might I ended up writing about, well, women
God, I'm so queer!
Anyways this song which I honestly thought was just gonna be a pop fluff piece
An Ep filler if you will
This song turned into something different and it inspired me, it empowered me and I hope it does the same for you
Because now I know my dreams will come true
And I wanna see my name in lights

[Chorus 2]
(I wanna see my name in lights)
Shining in your eyes
I've always hated the thought of being a hero
But now it feels right
And I don't care about the fame or the fortune at all
But if this is my one song glory
What a hell of a way to go

[Outro]
Cos I wanna see my name in LIGHTS!
