This track became Moby’s biggest song, the second single from his album 18 was picked up by the Bourne film series. This version of the track was used during the closing credits for both the first two movies, and they employed Moby to continue working with them on Bourne Ultimatum, and The Bourne Le...
[Instrumental Intro]
[Verse 1]
Extreme ways are back again
Extreme places I didn't know
I broke everything new again
Everything that I'd owned
I threw it out the window, came along
Extreme ways I know will part
The colors of my sea
Some perfect colored me
Extreme ways that help me
They help me out late at night
Extreme places I had gone
That never seen any light
Dirty basements, dirty noise
Dirty places coming through
Extreme worlds alone
Did you ever like it then?
[Pre-Chorus]
I would stand in line for this
There's always room in life for this
[Chorus]
Oh baby, oh baby
Then it fell apart, it fell apart
Oh baby, oh baby
Then it fell apart, it fell apart
Oh baby, oh baby
Then it fell apart, it fell apart
Oh baby, oh baby
Like it always does, always does
[Verse 2]
Extreme sounds that told me
They held me down every night
I didn't have much to say
I didn't give up the light
I closed my eyes and closed myself
And closed my world and never open up to anything
That could cut me at all
I had to close down everything
I had to close down my mind
Too many things could cut me
Too much can make me blind
I've seen so much in so many places
So many heartaches, so many faces
So many dirty things
You couldn't even believe
[Pre-Chorus]
I would stand in line for this
There's always room in life for this
[Chorus]
Oh baby, oh baby
Then it fell apart, it fell apart
Oh baby, oh baby
Then it fell apart, it fell apart
Oh baby, oh baby
Then it fell apart, it fell apart
Oh baby, oh baby
Like it always does, always does

Moby told Reddit:
At the time i wrote i was being way too social…drinking too much, going out 6 or 7 nights a week, staying out until 7 a.m every night(morning). so ‘extreme ways’ was written about that time and the exciting but soul ravaging degeneracy that was a big part of my life then. thanks.
Ian Watson wrote in his piece about Moby’s words:
“Romanticised” account of “the darker, more degenerate side of things and how seductive it is but also how destructive it can be as well… The song is indicative of perhaps more degeneracy and depravity than I’ve actually experienced.”
