[Verse 1]
Blowing kisses off his face
Like flies—like little flies
Blowing like a grouper fish
Floating through the reefs
His card says executive
But it mumbles just a salesman
He's not sure just who you are
But you might be a good connection
[Chorus]
Extra executives with a general desire (I want, I want)
Extra executives with a general desire (I want, I want)
General desire (I want)
General desire (I want)
He took a course in sales
He's never been the same
[Verse 2]
A certain way to do things
Respect for expectations
His bank gets a promotion
But his brain gets a vacation
He's looking over your shoulder
At the party for a person
Who will change his life
Reward him somehow
Hey... I'm talking to you
[Chorus]
Extra executives with a general desire (I want, I want)
Extra executives with a general desire (I want, I want)
General desire (I want)
General desire (I want)
He took a course in sales
He's never been the same
[Bridge]
One time I asked him if he liked grouper fish and he didn't know what I wanted to hear: that he ate them or just admired them. And if he said "Yes, I think they're delicious" I would align him with a [?] and award him with a dinner invitation. Or maybe if I had enough sense I went out on a glass-bottom boat one afternoon and I saw these colorful fish swimming around the coral reefs. And I asked the black man that's piloting the boat, "What kind of fish are these?" "Grouper fish." And I said, "Aren't they beautiful? Who would ever want to eat them?" And so this guy tried to be vague and to lift his always-dress-as-if-you're-successful cuffs over all the traitorous clouds of non- and true information. And I stood there with an indecipherable expression, swirling the ice cubes in my martini. And finally, he turned red and blew up!
[Verse 3]
Everything's an exercise
For the extra executive
He's not sure just who you are
But you might be a good connection
Blowing kisses off his face
Like flies—like little flies
Blowing like a grouper fish
Floating through the reefs
[Pre-Chorus]
Waiting for that special deal in the sky
That he never has to trade in
The telephone call that never comes
The letter's not in the letter box
The handshake that will close the deal
The telegram that will change his life
[Chorus]
Extra executives with a general desire (I want, I want)
Extra executives with a general desire (I want, I want)
General desire (I want)
General desire (I want)
He took a course in sales
He's never been the same
