Growing up wasn’t easy, one push and we’d fumble
Then trampoline ourselves back straight into the jungle
Blood may be thicker than water, but thinner than the dark glasses
That keep a tab and label, spreading hate in the masses
Being classist and racist was like a rule
Personality was in the skin, and using fair and lovely was cool
Friend circles, confined by religious beliefs
Boundaries never crossed, conversations reserved for beefs

Do you talk to your maid, know if hеr kids are schooling?
Do you let the rickshaw go cuz your rеligion is ruling?
Do you knock your neighbour’s door to ask how they’re doing?
Do you think of the bigger picture
Time to quit fooling!

Rishwat toh Chai-paani ke naam pe sahara
Udte patang ki hawa ka bhi karein batwara
Zimmedari ke daur mein bewafaon ka mela
Sab ghume yahaan jaise awara pagal deewana!

We were told our generation is WEAK, because we’re empathetic as humans…

Secularity’s about building unity
But would someone care to educate, given the chance to discriminate
It’s rewarding to be able to decide people’s fate
Not gonna wait till it’s way too late
My generation’s in deep, necks above the water
Don’t bend the knee in front of a shaking bag of quarters
Only the sons rose, but now we’re standing for daughters

We were told our generation is ‘weak’ because we’re empathetic as humans. We were taught to hate other communities because we were scared of losing faith in our own. We were told that men were in control, when it’s against nature to ill-treat women who give birth to these same men
