“European Son” was initially released in 1980 as the B-side to “I Second That Emotion”. It was then remixed and released as part of the Assemblage compilation in 1981, before being eventually remixed again with newly overdubbed bass by Mick Karn and released as a single 7 January 1982.
[Verse 1]
Scurrying across the broadwalk
Some places I tend to forget
The air clings deep in my throat
It's so cold in this luncheonette, well
[Pre-Chorus]
Somebody wants to know you
An ordinary boy
Somebody wants to know you
A standard polaroid, well
[Chorus]
Here I am
European son
Sometimes the passenger
European son
Here I am
European son
Sometimes the passenger
European son
[Verse 2]
Suffragettes in Washington
Disposable serviettes
Searching for the quiet life
There's no love in this luncheonette, well
[Pre-Chorus]
Somebody wants to know you
An ordinary boy
Somebody wants to know you
A standard polaroid, well
[Chorus]
Here I am
European son
Sometimes the passenger
European son
[Instrumental Break]
[Chorus]
Here I am
European son
Sometimes the passenger
European son
Here I am
European son
Sometimes the passenger
European son
European son
European son
European son
European son
Somebody wants to know you
(European son)
An ordinary boy
(European son)
European son (European son)
