Daybreak chapter 1: Part 2: The day i lost everything

10 years later:
As i'm lying in bed my mind flashes to another memory.
January 7, 2018
it was another cold day in Kiev i was 17 and Kay was 16.
it was normal that day but i wasn't happy, well then again i hadn't been happy in nearly 10 years. Me and Kay were helping mother cook because she was getting older, Kay had noticed that the firewood had gotten low and said she would go out and get more and me being the dumbass i am said i would help her because she wasn't as strong as i was and because it was getting cold so the more wood wе get the bettеr because winters in Ukraine suck.
so we went to the tool shed and got the Khopesh and War scythe, we had them for some reason i don't really know why mother didn't tell us.
after about a few hours of chopping wood we went back to the house and then at that very moment our lives went to shit.
the door was open and there was yelling coming from from inside
i know i had left the door closed so someone or something was inside, as we stepped in we felt a dark aura surround us we heard mother screaming in living room so we braced for the worst.
THUMP! i fell down someone hit me in the head when i hit the floor i heard Kay start screaming telling someone to let her go then i blacked out.
When i awoke there was someone staring at me saying "Wakey- Wakey" after i adjusted i realized i was tied up and there were multiple people in my house to be exact 4 men and 3 women.
in the middle of the room was mother and a man yelling at her for not paying he then took out two hook swords and said "alright you missed payment you know what happens now" and put the swords up to her neck like a pair of scissors and cut. i don't remember much after that mother fell, Kay screamed, i was yelling and then the house started to smell of gasoline the people left and one of them wearing a black skull mask yelled out "DON'T FUCK WITH THE GUARDIANS" then left.
i then saw the house was on fire and i started panicking and broke free of my bonds and untied Kay she then went to grab mother but the roof collapsed on top of her before she could get there so she started crying again and i grabbed here saying we needed to get out she agreed, we went for the door she got out but as was getting out some timber fell on me i felt searing, burning pain across my face and body but none the less i crawled out. i had burned most of my face and back.
Then i felt something, someone shaking me awake Yelling Scott, SCOTT. it was Kay she said i was sleeping and Malcolm was starting to get worried i said sorry and grabbed my gas mask and put it on.
