This poem was written in a letter to James Rice on the 25th of March 1818 and published by Lord Houghton in the first volume of Life, Letters (1848). The stanza is a description of the Dawlish Fair over a hill.
Over the hill and over the dale,
And over the bourn to Dawlish--
Where gingerbread wives have a scanty sale
And gingerbread nuts are smallish.
John Keats released Dawlish Fair on Wed Mar 25 1818.
