This short ballet interlude ends Act 3 of Ponchielli’s opera La Gioconda. It has since become more famous than the rest of the opera thanks its inclusion in the 1940 Disney animated film Fantasia and the source of Allan Sherman’s 1963 novelty hit “Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah”.
