The Highwomen
As the Highwomen said, this song was written about the importance of women coming together to fight for their causes and talk together at a crowded table about these topics.
[Verse 1]
You can hold my hand
When you need to let go
I can be your mountain
When you're feeling valley-low
I can be your streetlight
Showing you the way home
You can hold my hand
When you need to let go
[Chorus]
I want a house with a crowded table
And a place by the fire for everyone
Let us take on the world while we're young and able
And bring us back together when the day is done
[Verse 2]
If we want a garden
We're gonna have to sow the seed
Plant a little happiness
Let the roots run deep
If it's love that we give
Then it's love that we reap
If we want a garden
We're gonna have to sow the seed
[Chorus]
Yeah I want a house with a crowded table
And a place by the fire for everyone
Let us take on the world while we're young and able
And bring us back together when the day is done
[Bridge]
The door is always open
Your picture's on my wall
Everyone's a little broken
And everyone belongs
Yeah, everyone belongs
[Chorus]
I want a house with a crowded table
And a place by the fire for everyone
Let us take on the world while we're young and able
And bring us back together when the day is done
And bring us back together when the day is done
Crowded Table was written by Brandi Carlile & Lori McKenna & Natalie Hemby.
Crowded Table was produced by Dave Cobb.
The Highwomen released Crowded Table on Fri Jul 26 2019.
“Crowded Table” is a song that I wrote with Lori McKenna. We started on the piano and we just wanted to write a song about women coming together despite our differences.
Learning how to talk to people that don’t believe the same things that you believe is really the only way forward in the world, and the four of us don’t all believe the same thing, but if we can go out into the world as activists, as women, that see things differently but come back together to break...
It’s just a really beautiful message about coming together and I love the vocals on it so much because it really feels like a gospel song. There’s just so many lyrical treasures in it that Natalie and Lori McKenna wrote.
