“Coney Island Steeplechase” was originally recorded May 6, 1969 for The Velvet Underground’s unreleased fourth album.
After the band was dropped by MGM and the album was shelved, this song remained unreleased until Verve included it on their 1986 outtakes compilation Another View.
[Chorus]
Would you like to go on the Coney Island Steeple?
Go out and have a good time
We'll take the subway, right down to King's Highway
Gonna have a good time
[Verse 1]
It'd be so nice
Like summer with ice
If you come and go with me
The roller coaster, you and me
We'd just fly
[Chorus]
Would you like to go on the Coney Island Steeple?
Go out and have a good time
Like a sister and brother who cling to each other
When they find out their parents are mad
[Verse 2]
Oh, it'd be so nice
Like summer with ice
Oh, if you come and go with me
How nice it would be
You know we would fly
[Outro]
Monday
Oh, Tuesday
Oh, Wednesday
Oh, Thursday
Maybe not Friday
Oh, Saturday
Oh, baby, Sunday
Oh, Coney Island
Oh, Coney Island
Oh, Coney Island
Coney Island
Coney Island
Coney Island
Coney Island
Coney Island
Coney Island
Coney Island
