Written as the new intro for Jeremy Jordan’s show at Broadway’s Feinstein’s/54 Below, Carry On which premiered May 6th, 2021, and was available for streaming from May 7th to the 27th. The song was written in a few days to replace the opening number from the original show performed in February 2020.
[Verse]
There is a place I long to go
I don't know where to find it
Wearing the face I long to know
By heart
[Verse]
Here lies the latest fork in the road
I know the worst is behind me
Tears lie in the pages of lies that I wrote
I've carried them this far
[Pre-Chorus]
You see I've arranged my life to chase that light
I drew singing this is my rainbow
And it's hard to see sometimes roads they lead you back home
But I don't want to carry that weight
[Chorus]
So I carry on, I carry on, I carry on
Till I can carry no more
[Verse]
Oh little new love come my way
Light of the stars shines inside it
Over the moon, I long to hang my heart
[Pre-Chorus]
But though I've arranged my life to chase
That line I drew saying this is my rainbow
And it's hard to see sometimes the roads they lead you back home
But I know I'm not going that way
[Chorus]
So I carry, I carry on, I carry on again
Oh I carry on, I carry on, I carry on
Till I can carry no more
[Verse]
Stars I leave in my arms and reach in my heart
And if I can't bury the truth
Maybe I can carry it with you
[Pre-Chorus]
So I'll arrange my life to change that line I'd drew 'cause
Now I'm over the rainbow
But it's hard to see sometimes the roads they lead you back
And this road is calling my name
[Chorus]
So I carry on, I carry on, I carry on again
Oh I carry on, I carry on, I carry on ooh
Carry, I carry on with you (carry on, carry on)
[Outro]
And it's hard to see sometimes roads they lead you back home
